Hurley High School is located in the Knox Creek Magisterial District in northwestern part of Buchanan County about four miles from the community of Hurley on Route 643 and approximately seven miles from the Kentucky and West Virginia state lines. The school is in a rural setting and is connected to the county seat, Grundy, by routes 460 via 650 and 83 via 643. Hurley High School is located within a 100-miles radius of various cities and towns in Virginia, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Kentucky.
